traveling by train.
Forewarned is forearmed… so let it be known this post is going up in draft form…
Bored on the train, I have started making a mental list of things I didn’t know before today with regard to traveling on Amtrak….
- Today is the first time I heard an overhead announcement that shoes are required to be worn at all times while on the train. I get it…and am probably most grateful… but strange.. never heard that before.
- I never knew before today that evidently you can go batshit crazy in the Amtrak waiting lounge and go on a tirade, verbally abusing a humble janitor (who was in fact only doing their job), so long as you are a ticketed passenger, with absolutely no consequences. The exception being that a handful of reasonable passengers will confront you on your issues and all reasonable passengers in the vicinity will give you the evil eye. NOTE: I count myself among the reasonable, not the screaming, righteous lunatic who was incensed that a janitor would deign to sweep the floor in her vicinity.
- Hard boiled eggs really are not good train travel food, EVEN if you are in the quiet car. I’m questioning the logic of the ‘quiet car defense.’ Really just because it’s quiet means you can eat really smelly food and annoy surrounding passengers?
- The first 10-20 times you travel to Boston, the scenery is/can be interesting. Not so much trips 21 and up.
