On the road again

Well, tonight I am in Norfolk, VA!  And, I’m super tired… so pardon the typos!

I have heard so much about Norfolk – from a variety of opinions, so it was interesting to see it for myself.  From many descriptions, it seemed like it would be all ugly shipyards and navy men on every street corner.  Well, it isn’t that.

However, there are shipyards and I did pass a very good looking navy guy… so there’s that.

The water ways are everywhere and it’s fun to walk along the harbor and drive around the area.  I don’t really like the tunnels but I am a slave to the Garmin today which refused to give me any route but the tunnel.  So like a mole I came to Norfolk, then to Portsmouth, and then back to Norfolk.

Enjoying the English names all over the place – but occasionally my brain switches over to Jane Austen and my ability to navigate geographically gets confused… am I headed to Lyme, to Bath, or to Smithfield?

Downtown Norfolk was dominated by a big mall.  Now I didn’t make it to the fashionable Ghent district… so I really can’t make a judgement.  But downtown was a ghost town at 515 on a Tuesday night. The mall, however was packed.  Go figure.

Went to dinner to stretch my legs and sight see briefly, and then like a good girl came back to my hotel room to prep for interviews tomorrow.  Lots of interviews and then the drive back to PA.

Some random observations…I know you love them….

> The door to my bathroom A) doesn’t look like it came with the room B) has been sanded and cut down to fit the door frame and C) has been chipped away at the bottom as if a beaver has been living in the bathroom or someone was trapped and needed oxygen.  Oh, and D) the toilet is about 6 inches away from the wall… the back of it – that is… is this in case of flooding?  I can almost walk a perfect circle around it, if I wanted to – which I don’t, but I could.

> I was told my room would have a view of the harbor…. OK by me, I didn’t request it.  Sadly, the only body of water my room views is the pool… right outside my room.  And, then behind the wiki-wiki cane fencing is the harbor.  Unfortunately,  the part of the harbor I would be seeing if it weren’t for the pool and fence is the part where the bridge crosses the harbor.. so I have cane fencing and concrete pilings as my view.

>If I move here – I might be able to take a ferry to work… how cool would that be?

>Norfolk Meetup.com is pretty interesting… I would really have to vet these groups.

Alright, I’m tired and must get my beauty sleep.

As ever,

K. Quinn
